The Effectiveness of Selenium in Oral Nutritional Therapy for Patients With Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

Background and Aim: Every year, traumatic brain injuries lead to more than one million admissions emergency rooms 50,000 deaths, millions of disabilities worldwide, among all ages genders. This study aimed examine the effects selenium added oral nutritional therapy on mortality rate length hospital stay in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage admitted intensive care unit (ICU) for six months. Methods Materials/Patients: clinical trial included 100 ICU Loghman Hakim Hospital, Tehran, Iran. These were then randomly assigned intervention or control groups. Standard solutions administered both groups according recommended guidelines. Along standard intake, participants group given 1000 μg (Selenase-Biosyn, Germany) first day feeding, dissolved mL normal saline 30 minutes, followed by 500μg daily 10 days. We screened GCS, APACHE-II scores, as well cortisol levels days 1 10. Results: The mean score 10th was significantly different between two groups, this also true before intervention. In terms rates, there no significant difference group. Neither nor spent time ICU. Conclusion: other variables unclear, although rates did not differ Considering confounding through regression analysis, variable negatively impacted selenium, but taking into account effect age, a definitive conclusion cannot be made.
